Stephanie A. Anderson
Director, Drug Evaluation

Ms. Anderson joined Inspire in May 2004 and is responsible for overseeing preclinical/nonclinical work to support Inspire Research and Development projects. Currently she manages the Drug Evaluation department which is responsible for evaluating new therapeutic targets at the in vivo and ex vivo level as well as preclinical evaluation and safety assessment of potential lead compounds. Ms. Anderson brings over 14 years of experience in the area of toxicology and project management to Inspire. Prior to joining Inspire, Ms. Anderson worked for RTI International, a not-for-profit contract research organization, as the manager of the Specialty Toxicology and Pharmacology Program. She served as a toxicology study director and was responsible for managing work in the areas of reproductive and endocrine toxicology, pharmacokinetics and toxicokinetics, and specialized pharmacology and toxicology, including the development of specialized animal models. Ms. Anderson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from North Carolina State University.

Sean K. Blake
Director, Information Technology

Mr. Blake joined Inspire in January 2006 as Director, Information Technology. He is responsible for all of the company's Information Technology functions including information security, telecommunications, systems infrastructure and IT internal controls. Mr. Blake has over 19 years of experience in the Information Technology field. Prior to joining Inspire, he was the Director, IT and Operations at Amphora Discovery where he was responsible for the Information Technology, Instrument Maintenance, and Facilities functions. Previously, he held the position of Director of IT for Covance Biotechnology Services (now Diosynth), and has also worked for Eli Lilly and Company and managed the infrastructure for their RTP, NC and Cambridge, MA facilities. Mr. Blake started his career as a systems analyst with USF&G Insurance Company. Mr. Blake holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management from the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.

José L. Boyer, PhD
Vice President, Molecular Pharmacology

Dr. Boyer joined Inspire in October 2000. He leads ongoing programs in the molecular pharmacology department. He works closely with the Vice President of Research and Preclinical Development in setting the vision for future programs targeted at identifying novel product candidates. Dr. Boyer has published extensively in the field of P2Y receptors and has worked closely with the founding scientists of Inspire. Before joining Inspire, Dr. Boyer collaborated with the company on various research projects through sponsored research agreements in his role as research assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He serves as a member of the NC-IUPHAR subcommittee on P2Y receptors, and currently holds a position as Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Boyer earned his Ph.D. and Master's in biochemistry from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in Mexico.

Vikki A. Brandi, PA, DHSc
Director, Respiratory and Opportunistic Clinical Research

Ms. Brandi joined Inspire in July 2006. She brings to Inspire more than 20 years of clinical experience, including experience as a Physicians Assistant. Ms. Brandi has held positions of increasing responsibility at a Clinical Research Organization and at various biotech and pharmaceutical companies, including GlaxoSmithKline and IVAX. She has experience in domestic and international clinical research in therapeutic areas including asthma, allergy, and neurology. Her previous responsibilities included the design and management of Phase 1 through 4 clinical trials, reporting of clinical trial results, and authoring various sections of regulatory submissions for U.S. and E.U. regulatory authorities. She holds two B.S. degrees from Pace University and SUNY at StonyBrook, a Master of Medical Science degree from St. Francis University; and a Doctorate of Science degree from Nova Southeastern University.

Darrin P. Bryan
Senior Director, Operations and Strategic Markets

Mr. Bryan joined Inspire in November 2003 and until February 2007 served as Director of Operations & Strategic Markets. As Senior Director, Operations and Strategic Markets, he is responsible for leading the operation area (including data, sales force automation, fleet, forecasting, territory alignment & planning, etc.), as well as Strategy development for managed care and overall reimbursement strategy for Inspire’s Sales and Marketing organization. Prior to joining Inspire, Mr. Bryan led managed care marketing activities at Biovail Pharmaceuticals. Prior to Biovail, he worked at Arthur Andersen, LLP and Campbell Alliance, providing a variety of management consulting services to pharmaceutical and healthcare clients. Mr. Bryan received his BA in Economics, MBA and MHA (honors) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Stephen D. Celestini
Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer

Mr. Celestini joined Inspire in June 2007 as Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer. Mr. Celestini previously served as General Counsel and Vice President, Corporate Compliance, of Salix Pharmaceuticals, Ltd. from 2001 until 2006. Prior to that, he worked for five years in the legal department of GlaxoWellcome in Research Triangle Park, NC, where he focused on pharmaceutical product licensing and sales/marketing compliance. From 1989 to 1996, Mr. Celestini worked in the private law firms of Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice in Winston-Salem, NC, and Wyrick Robbins Yates & Ponton in Raleigh, NC, concentrating in securities, corporate finance and governance, mergers and acquisitions and intellectual property matters. Mr. Celestini earned a B.A. in Political Science from Virginia Tech in 1985 and a J.D. from Wake Forest University Law School in 1989.

Matthew S. Cowlen, PhD, DABT
Director, Toxicology

Dr. Cowlen joined Inspire in June 2000 as Senior Scientist, Preclinical Programs. He held the position of Associate Director, Drug Evaluation from January 2005 until his promotion to Director, Toxicology in January 2008. Dr. Cowlen is responsible for regulatory toxicology at all stages of drug development for the respiratory and ophthalmic therapeutic areas. He is responsible for the design, execution, interpretation, and reporting of toxicology and safety pharmacology studies required by international regulatory agencies, and has supervised studies using ocular, pulmonary, intranasal, oral, and intravenous routes of administration. Dr. Cowlen has authored the toxicology and safety pharmacology sections of numerous regulatory filings with US, European, and Canadian agencies, including pre-INDs, INDs, Investigator's Brochures, End-of-Phase II packages, and an NDA for the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA); Protocol Assistance briefing packages and an Orphan Drug Application for the European Medicines Agency (EMEA); and a Clinical Trial Application for Health Canada (HC). In addition, he has participated in regulatory meetings at the FDA, EMEA, and HC in support of multiple clinical development programs. Prior to joining Inspire, Dr. Cowlen held the position of Molecular Pathologist from 1996 to 2000 at Pathology Associates International in Frederick, MD. He served on the Board of Directors of the Genetic Toxicology Association from 2005 to 2008, including two years as Secretary and one year as Chair. Dr. Cowlen received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Missouri-Columbia, was awarded a 2-year fellowship in Clinical Chemistry in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of North Carolina Hospitals, UNC Chapel Hill, and is certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology.

Robert J. Dempsey, MBA
Senior Director, Ophthalmic Medical Development
Mr. Dempsey joined Inspire in October 2003 as a Regional Sales Director and was promoted to his current position in October of 2007. He is responsible for key opinion leader development, institutional partnerships and educational forums. He works closely with the commercial group to support their functions in Ophthalmology. Since joining Inspire, he has held positions of Senior Regional Sales Director and as an Account Director. Mr. Dempsey has 19 years of sales, managed healthcare and management experience in the Pharmaceutical industry. He gained valuable Ophthalmic experience in anti-infective, anti-inflammatory and glaucoma agents as a Senior Territory Manager while working in Boston, MA for Allergan Pharmaceuticals. During his tenure at Muro Pharmaceuticals, he gained management experience as a District Manager leading a sales team in New England. He began his career at Knoll Pharmaceuticals in general and hospital sales. Mr. Dempsey holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Masters in Business Administration from Northeastern University in Boston, MA.

Bart J. Dunn
Vice President, Business Development and Strategic Planning
Mr. Dunn joined Inspire in August 2006 as Vice President of Business Development. In January 2008 he was named Vice President, Business Development and Strategic Planning. In this role, he is responsible for leading business development activities at the company, including the identification, evaluation and management of transactions related to licensing, acquisition and partnering opportunities. Mr. Dunn also oversees Inspire's strategic planning function, leading the company's efforts in the areas of strategy development, long-range planning and the identification of strategic opportunities that will continue to build on Inspire's success. Mr. Dunn joined Inspire from Pfizer Inc., where he was Director of Business Development in the Corporate Strategic Planning group. In that capacity, he led numerous transaction teams involved in the evaluation, structuring, negotiation and execution of strategic acquisitions, divestitures, alliances, and product/technology licenses. During his 16 year tenure at Pfizer, Mr. Dunn also served in a variety of other management capacities in the areas of strategic planning, finance and accounting. Prior to joining Pfizer, Mr. Dunn spent 7 years at PepsiCo, Inc., holding positions in business planning, corporate tax and internal audit. Mr. Dunn received an MBA in Pharmaceutical Marketing from Saint Joseph's University, a BBA in Accounting from Pace University and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Todd A. Durham, MS
Senior Director, Biostatistics and Data Management

Mr. Durham joined Inspire in January 2003. As Senior Director of Biostatistics and Data Management, he is responsible for biostatistical and data management activities for Inspire's development teams. Prior to joining Inspire, Mr. Durham served as Associate Director, Biostatistics at Quintiles, Inc., where he worked for eight years. Mr. Durham has made significant statistical contributions to six NDA submissions in a variety of therapeutic areas and has been involved with five presentations to FDA Advisory Committees. Mr. Durham received his BSPH and MS in Biostatistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Carole Evans, BSc, PhD
Senior Director, CMC Operations

Dr. Carole Evans joined Inspire in September 2007 as Senior Director of CMC Operations, responsible for oversight of planning and coordination of CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls) of ongoing programs. Dr. Evans brings over 17 years of Pulmonary and Nasal product development experience to Inspire. Prior to joining Inspire, Dr. Evans was Senior Director of Analytical R&D at Cardinal Health, RTP, where she was responsible for analytical support of product development programs across a variety of dosage forms. Prior to Cardinal she held analytical R&D positions at Smithkline Beecham in Upper Merion and Delphi in Boston. Dr. Evans has also been involved in industry organizations including IPAC and has previously chaired the Inhalation Technology Focus Group of AAPS. Dr. Evans holds a BSc and a PhD in microbiology from the University of Wales.

Reza Haque, MD, DO, PhD
Vice President, Ophthalmic Clinical Research
Dr. Haque has served as our Vice President of Ophthalmic Clinical Research since October 2007. He brings to Inspire over 20 years of experience in the ophthalmology space, with extensive experience in planning and executing drug registration strategy, which includes creating clinical development plans, writing protocols, executing clinical trials, analyzing and interpreting data and delivering clinical portions of New Drug Applications (NDA) to the FDA. Previously, Dr. Haque was Head of Clinical Development & Medical Affairs at Johnson & Johnson Vision Care. Prior to that, Dr. Haque held various positions at Novartis Ophthalmic, Clinical Research and Development, including Director of Global Clinical Research and Director & Section Head, Front of the Eye in Global Clinical Development, as well as Associate Director-Global Clinical Research, Principal Clinical Research Physician and Sr. Clinical Research Physician. Dr. Haque received an M.D. from Dhaka University, Mymensingh Medical College, a D.O. from Dhaka University, National Institute of Ophthalmology and a Ph.D. in Ocular Pharmacology from Gifu University School of Medicine. Dr. Haque was also a Glaucoma Fellow at the National Eye Institute at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Raymond W. Hines
Vice President, Associate General Counsel

Mr. Hines joined Inspire in August 2006 as Vice President, Associate General Counsel. In this role, he serves as lead counsel for all corporate and business development transactions, including potential collaboration, licensing, co-promotion, product development and/or acquisition opportunities. Before joining Inspire, Mr. Hines spent five years as Vice President & Legal Counsel of Business Development at King Pharmaceuticals, Inc. At King, he was lead attorney on business development transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, collaborations, in-licensings, and divestitures. Prior to King, he was Senior Counsel at GlaxoSmithKline in North Carolina and Partner at Ward and Smith, P.A. Mr. Hines received a J.D. with honors from the University of Kentucky College of Law and a B.A. from Davidson College.

J.C. (Chad) Ice
Senior Director, Clinical Research
Mr. Ice joined Inspire in July 2001 following several months of work with the company as an independent contractor. He is currently responsible for clinical research operations in the ophthalmology therapeutic area. In addition to leading a team focused on Phase 1 through Phase 3 clinical research, Mr. Ice supports the Commercial Operations group through collaboration and clinical research with Inspire's marketed products. Prior to joining Inspire, Mr. Ice held positions of increasing responsibility at a contract research organization and at Glaxo Wellcome. Mr. Ice graduated with a B.S. in Biology from Lenoir-Rhyne College and earned credits towards a Ph.D. in pharmacology at East Carolina University School of Medicine.

Brian D. Kaufman
Chief, Quality and Continuous Improvement

Mr. Kaufman joined Inspire in December 1998. He is currently Chief, Quality and Continuous Improvement and is responsible for matters including quality systems and continuous improvement initiatives. Prior to joining Inspire, Mr. Kaufman was employed for seven years by Magellan Laboratories (CardinalHealth), a contract pharmaceutical research organization. Mr. Kaufman was responsible for quality assurance, inhalation product testing and business development during various stages of his tenure at Magellan. Before joining Magellan, Mr. Kaufman worked at Burroughs Wellcome Co. and Duke University Medical Center, where he conducted research on activation of purinergic receptors in the pulmonary surfactant system. Mr. Kaufman graduated with a B.A. from Hampden-Sydney College and conducted graduate research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Biochemistry.

Susan Kenny, PhD
Director, Statistical Programming
Dr. Kenny joined Inspire in April 2006. As Director of Statistical Programming within Biostatistics and Data Management, she is responsible for activities related to the production of study results and the management of clinical databases. Dr. Kenny brings nearly 20 years of experience to Inspire.. She has conducted public health research in academia and at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and has extensive statistical and programming experience in pharmaceutical research in a variety of therapeutic areas. Dr. Kenny has been an active participant in the Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) since 1999 and is recognized as an industry thought leader in the area of data standards implementation. Dr. Kenny received her BS and MS degrees from Kansas State University and the University of Illinois and her MPH and PhD degrees in Biostatistics from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

Jenny R. Kobin
Vice President, Investor Relations and Corporate Communications

Ms. Kobin joined Inspire in August 2004 as Senior Director of Investor Relations and was promoted to her current position in June 2006. She is responsible for coordinating investor, media and public relations activities at Inspire. Ms. Kobin has more than 15 years of experience in investor relations and corporate communications in diverse industries including banking, software and healthcare, at companies ranging from small to large market capitalization sizes with listings on NASDAQ and NYSE. She has served in investor relations roles at TriPath Imaging, SciQuest, National Commerce Financial and Bank of America and began her career in investment banking with J.C. Bradford & Co. Ms. Kobin serves on the national Board of Directors of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI) and was co-founder, past president and board director of the NIRI-Triangle Chapter of North Carolina. Ms. Kobin received a BS in Commerce from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Ramesh Krishnamoorthy, PhD
Senior Director, Sterile Products

Dr. Krishnamoorthy joined Inspire in May 2001 and was promoted to his current position in July 2007. He is responsible for pre-formulation, formulation development and process-scale up activities for the various development programs. Prior to joining Inspire, Dr. Krishnamoorthy was employed by Bausch & Lomb Pharmaceuticals in Tampa, Florida. While at Bausch & Lomb, he was responsible for directing the scientific and operational aspects of formulation and process development activities for multiple product development programs in the therapeutic areas of ophthalmology, respiratory, and topicals. There he participated in the submission and approval of two NDAs and eight ANDAs for various products. Dr. Krishnamoorthy holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy and Master of Pharmacy degree, and earned his Ph.D. from the department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy from Purdue University. His research focus was in the area of drug delivery to the eye and nasal cavity.

Mark A. Montgomery, Esquire
Vice President, Intellectual Property

Mr. Montgomery joined Inspire in March 2001 and is responsible for all intellectual property, including patents, trademarks and related agreements. Specifically, he is responsible for evaluating and protecting the company's technical information, securing licenses, and ensuring that the company maintains an effective global patent strategy. Mr. Montgomery has 20 years of patent experience. Before joining Inspire, he was Senior Counsel with Bausch & Lomb in charge of intellectual property for its pharmaceuticals group in Tampa, FL. Prior positions include Chief Patent Counsel of Calgon Corporation in Pittsburgh, PA, and patent attorney for Eastman Chemical, Fina, and Phillips Petroleum. Mr. Montgomery received his Juris Doctor in law from the National Law Center of George Washington University in Washington D.C. and his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Arizona State University.

W.M. (Mike) Mulchi
Vice President, Manufacturing & Technical Operations

Mr. Mulchi joined Inspire in February 2007 as Senior Director, Manufacturing and Technical Operations and was promoted to his current position in July 2007. He is responsible for the commercial product supply chain, logistics, and contract manufacturing including long term supply contracts for API and finished dosage forms. In addition, Mr. Mulchi is in charge of CMC Operations, which includes overall coordination of CMC projects, CMC teams, and alliances with CMOs. Prior to joining Inspire, Mr. Mulchi was Director of Technical Operations, Logistics, and Quality Assurance for Alimera Sciences where he was heavily involved in the manufacture, approval and launch of its ophthalmic products. Mr. Mulchi brings over 20 years of pharmaceutical manufacturing experience to Inspire with a variety of dosage forms including solid dosage tablets, sterile injectable solutions, and ophthalmic products. He has also worked for GlaxoWellcome, Eisai, and Merck Manufacturing Division in various manufacturing, quality, and technical positions. Mr. Mulchi holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science from North Carolina State University.

Ward M. Peterson, PhD
Vice President, Research and Preclinical Development

Dr. Peterson has over 15 years of academic and industry experience in vision science. He has served as Vice President of Research and Preclinical Development since December 2005. Prior to this position, as Vice President of Biology, Dr. Peterson supervised Inspire's Biology department (Molecular Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Screening and Drug Evaluation) and worked with other Research and Preclinical Development functional group leaders to set the strategic direction for Biology. He is also the team leader for the glaucoma (cytoskeletal therapy) project. Prior to joining Inspire, Dr. Peterson was a retinal research scientist at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. He received his Ph.D. in Biophysics from the Dept of Molecular and Cell Biology and School of Optometry at University of California, Berkeley. He was awarded a research fellowship from the Foundation Fighting Blindness and a National Research Service Award from the National Institute of Health in support of his post-graduate training at U.C. San Francisco and Berkeley. His research has focused primarily on retinal pigment epithelium physiology and retinal disease.

Jeff W. Sampere
Vice President, Marketing

Mr. Sampere joined Inspire in November of 2003 as Senior Director, Marketing and was promoted to Vice President, Marketing in October 2004. He is responsible for all marketing activities around the current product portfolio. These include products within the existing pipeline, as well as products acquired through licensing agreements. He brings over 19 years of pharmaceutical marketing, sales and management experience to Inspire. Mr. Sampere began his career in the pharmaceutical industry with Glaxo Pharmaceuticals, starting as an analyst and becoming a sales representative in Jacksonville, Florida. He then held several positions in marketing, where he was responsible for Beclovent® Inhalation Aerosol and was a member of the Flovent® Inhalation Aerosol launch team. Subsequently he became a district manager in South Carolina before leaving to join DJ Pharma, which was acquired by Biovail Pharmaceuticals. During this period, Mr. Sampere was responsible for marketing Keftab®, Teveten® and Zovirax® Ointment and Cream, as well as managing new product development. Mr. Sampere graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and The College of William and Mary where he received his Masters in Business Administration.

Amy E. Schaberg, RN, BSN
Vice President, Clinical Research

Ms. Schaberg joined Inspire in August 2001 as Senior Director, Clinical Research. She worked with Inspire as a consultant for two years prior to accepting this position. Ms. Schaberg was promoted to Vice President, Clinical Research in April 2003. She is responsible for directing the scientific and operational aspects of clinical activities for seven clinical development programs in the therapeutic areas of ophthalmology, respiratory, and women's health. She brings to Inspire over 22 years of clinical development experience including the design and implementation of clinical trials and the reporting of clinical trial data, including the clinical portions of two New Drug Applications (NDAs) and two supplemental NDAs. Prior to consulting for Inspire, Ms. Schaberg was employed for ten years at Glaxo Wellcome in various capacities in clinical research. She holds a B.S. in Nursing from Boston University.

Sammy R. Shaver
Principal Investigator I, Pharmaceutical Sciences

Mr. Shaver has held positions of Group Leader, Director of Chemistry and Principal Investigator in Biochemistry and Screening before moving to his current role. As Principal Investigator in Pharmaceutical Sciences, he is responsible for creating and developing analytical methods to support internal preclinical and formulation activities as well as for transfer to external vendors. He is additionally responsible for maintaining and administering the in-house cheminformatics and bioinformatics systems. He was previously employed for 14 years at Burroughs Wellcome, focusing on nucleosides as antiviral agents. Mr. Shaver graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.S. degree in Chemistry.

Denise M. Sheehan, RPh
Vice President, Product Planning

Ms. Sheehan joined Inspire in July 2004 as Senior Director, Strategic Markets and was promoted to her current position in February 2007. She is responsible for maximizing the global commercial potential for Inspire with in-licensing and out-licensing opportunities and compounds in research through commercial development, with a large focus on product planning, alliance management and key opinion leader development. Ms. Sheehan has over 20 years of a broad range of marketing and sales experience in the pharmaceutical industry. She was directly involved with the successful global launches of cardiovascular products including Parke-Davis' Accupril® and Accuretic®, regional launches of Parke-Davis' Lipitor® and CNS product Celexa®, and global launches of ophthalmic products including Allergan's Zymar® and Elestat®. Ms. Sheehan headed up Global Marketing for Anterior Segment Products in Pharmaceutical Eyecare at Allergan in Irvine, CA. At the Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Division of Warner-Lambert in Morris Plains, NJ, she first joined the company in International Marketing and held positions of increasing responsibility in Global Marketing Planning, U.S. Cardiovascular Marketing and as a Business Director for the South Central Customer Business Unit. She began her career in the pharmaceutical industry with The Upjohn Company, in general and hospital sales in Georgia and Tennessee. Ms. Sheehan received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC and completed a Clinical Pharmacy Residency at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC. Ms. Sheehan also received a Masters of Management degree from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.

Mark A. Siemek
Director of SEC Reporting and Financial Planning & Analysis
Mr. Siemek joined Inspire in July 2005 as Director of SEC Reporting and Financial Planning & Analysis and is primarily responsible for the preparation of all SEC periodic reports, Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance, as well as other financial planning and analysis initiatives. Mr. Siemek has over 16 years experience in accounting, working in both public and private industries. Most recently, Mr. Siemek was Sr. Manager of Financial Reporting at the AOL division of Time Warner for the past 5 years, where he was responsible for the internal and external reporting of AOL and worked on various financial reporting related issues including compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 and system implementations. Mr. Siemek started his career as an auditor with Arthur Andersen, LLP in Washington D.C. where he serviced primarily banking and government clients. Mr. Siemek received a B.B.A. in Accounting from James Madison University.

M. Lynn Smiley, MD
Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Smiley joined Inspire in August 2005. Her responsibilities include serving as Medical Safety Officer for the Company and assisting the executive management team in developing and overseeing medical strategies related to product development. She develops and guides regulatory strategy and serves as a medical and scientific consultant to the Company's research and marketing teams. During her career, Dr. Smiley has been involved with the development of more than 20 pharmaceutical compounds, including 14 approved products, such as first-in-class drugs, Fuzeon® (enfuvirtide) HIV treatment, Retrovir® (zidovudine) HIV treatment, also known as AZT, and Zovirax® (acyclovir) anti-viral treatment. Prior to joining Inspire, Dr. Smiley served as Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, Compliance, and Drug Safety for Trimeris, Inc. She joined Trimeris as Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Clinical Research in January 2001. Dr. Smiley spent 13 years at GlaxoWellcome, Inc. (and its predecessors) serving most recently as Vice President of HIV and Opportunistic Infections Clinical Development and Director of the Infectious Diseases Department. Dr. Smiley has held teaching positions at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine since 1984, serving as Clinical Professor of Medicine since 1994. She holds an M.D. from the Duke University School of Medicine and a B.A. in Microbiology from the University of Kansas.

Gerald W. St. Peter
Senior Vice President, Sales and Managed Markets

Mr. St. Peter joined Inspire in July 2003 as Vice President of Sales and was promoted to his current position in February 2007. He is responsible for the development and execution of the sales infrastructure in North America to promote potential products from Inspire's pipeline, as well as partnered products. Mr. St. Peter brings over 16 years of pharmaceutical sales, managed healthcare, business development, leadership, and management experience to Inspire. In his previous position, Mr. St. Peter was the National Sales Director for Muro Pharmaceutical, Inc., a private specialty pharmaceutical company, and served on the company's Executive Management Committee. In this and previous roles at Muro, he grew the sales function from a small entrepreneurial sales force to a fully integrated 267-person national sales team, and led all aspects of the team including the Sales Operations, Sales Training and Sales Administration departments. Mr. St. Peter was responsible for the launches of several key products including Dynabac® Tablets, Optivar® and Alrex® Ophthalmic Solutions, Astelin® Nasal Spray and Volmax® Tablets. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Education from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Mr. St. Peter currently serves on the College of Health Professions Advisory Board and is an annual guest lecturer for the College.

Wei Tian, PhD
Principal Statistical Scientist I

Dr. Tian joined Inspire in November 2004. As Principal Statistical Scientist of Biostatistics and Data Management, she is responsible for providing statistical expertise for biostatistical and data management activities for Inspire's development and research teams. Prior to joining Inspire, Dr. Tian served as Statistical Scientist, Biostatistics at Quintiles, Inc., where she worked for five years. Dr. Tian has made significant statistical contributions to a number of NDA submissions in a variety of therapeutic areas and her work has been published in peer-reviewed statistics and clinical journals. Dr. Tian received her Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the University of Pittsburgh.

Paul S. Watson, PhD
Senior Director, Chemistry

Dr. Watson oversees Inspire's Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Development Groups. He joined Inspire in May 2003. The medicinal chemistry department is responsible for all of the activities related to lead generation and lead optimization. The chemical development group is responsible for developing synthetic routes to fund material requirements for Inspire's preclinical toxicology studies and Phase 1 drug substance requirements through a blend of both internal and external resources. Prior to joining Inspire, Dr. Watson was a medicinal and process chemist at both Dupont Pharmaceuticals Company and Bristol Myers Squibb. Paul received his BS degree in chemistry from SUNY-Oswego. He received a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from UNC at Chapel Hill. He was awarded a post-doctoral research fellowship from the National Institutes of Health and did his post-graduate training at Harvard University. His graduate and post-graduate research focused on the total synthesis of complex natural products.

Anita L. Woodring
Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs

Ms. Woodring joined Inspire in January 2000. As Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs, she is responsible for managing regulatory support for projects, including activities such as regulatory strategy, regulatory operations, safety reporting and project management. She received her Regulatory Affairs Certification in 2001. Ms. Woodring came to Inspire from Glaxo Wellcome where she spent six years in clinical research. There she participated in the submission of three NDAs for nine pulmonary drugs, and was instrumental in the design and execution of the asthma clinical trials performed to support the Advair NDA. Ms. Woodring completed her B.S. in Medical Technology at the University of Akron, and earned an M.S. in Pharmacy Administration from UNC - Chapel Hill.
